About Us - QS9000, ISO9001, & ISO14001
ISO, which stands for the International Organization of Standards, is a worldwide federation of national standards that ensure a company’s commitment to quality control. We gained ISO certification in 1996.
We decided to take it one step further and became QS-9000 T/E Supplement certified in December 2000. The goal of the T/E Supplement (which stands for Tooling & Equipment), in conjunction with QS-9000, is the development of fundamental quality systems that provide for continuous improvement, emphasizing defect prevention (as opposed to defect correction), and the reduction of variation & waste in the supply chain.
Being a QS/TE certified company has helped us become a more efficient, organized, customer-oriented company. We have several ways of tracking quality control, including Continuous Improvement Projects, our CIF System, and our Business Operating System Summary (the BOSS). To date we have committed American Controls to the use of Continuous Improvement Projects dealing with Customer Satisfaction, which we monitor through the use of surveys and monthly discussions between sales & engineering; monitoring nonconformance, using charts and a ratings system of prioritization to prevent future nonconformance issues; and Subcontractor Assessment, through the use of surveys completed by our suppliers regarding their products and services. Our Continuous Improvement System, also known as the CIF System, allows any employee to write up a formal document exposing and correcting a problem, whether it is an internal or an external supplier problem. The CIF System allows the Quality Manager to return to a problem a few months after the CIF is generated to discover whether or not the problem has been corrected, and shows that our continuous improvement system is working. The BOSS is a monthly report that details key areas that we monitor, including sales & profit information, customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, service costs & sales, and employee training hours.
In October, 2003, we were certified to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard. Through the use of Environmental Programs, including internal audits, continuous improvement, a commitment to the prevention of pollution, recycling, and environmental awareness, we've made ACI a safer, more productive, cost-effective company.
We are proud to be registered through SGS, which has a reputation of being a very difficult and picky registrar. They perform surveillance audits on our quality system twice a year. As a consequence of our QS/TE Certification, we were awarded the Chrysler Gold award for 1999. |
